Dixon takes fifth at Indy - as dramatic finish leaves Conway in hospital

Dixon finsihed fifth - but hoped for me
Scott Dixon has finished fifth at the Indy 500 placing after officials reviewed the finish of today's Indianapolis 500 - with his team mate Dario Franchitti taking the win.

Andretti team owner, Michael Andretti, successfully argued that his son, Marco, was third at the time a caution flag came out on lap 199 following a spectacular crash involving Briton Mike Conway.  Michael Andretti said Marco was passed by three cars after the yellow flag came out.

IndyCars officials agreed and Marco Andretti was elevated up from sixth to third in a decision handed down more than two hours after the raced ended.  Video review showed three cars passed Andretti after the caution flag came out on Lap 199.

As Dario Franchitti was closing in on victory at the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, Mike Conway was closing in on Ryan Hunter-Reay. The big difference was that while a full-of-adrenaline Franchitti went on to win the world's biggest race, Conway went to the hospital after a horrific wreck with an out of gas Hunter-Reay.

"I had nowhere to go," Hunter-Reay said after the race. He was also involved in an earlier incident with Scott Dixon in the pits, causing torn ligaments in his right thumb that will require surgery.

McLaren 1-2 as Red Bulls clash horns

Unlucky or unwise? Vettel clashed with Webber big time
Lewis Hamilton led a McLaren one-two after an extraordinary clash between Red Bull's Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel at the Turkish Grand Prix.

The incident happened on lap 40 of 58 when Vettel flew off the track after colliding with Webber in an attempt to take the lead from his team-mate. Both blamed eachother for the incident though the team seemed to be supporting vettel in the incident.

Hamilton's team-mate Jenson Button briefly passed him on lap 50 only for Hamilton to repass at the next corner.

Webber recovered with damage and finished third while Mercedes's Michael Schumacher was fourth. The German's team-mate Nico Rosberg finished fifth to cap off a good weekend for Ross Brawn's team.

Their joy was in stark contrast to that of the Ferrari team, with three-time Istanbul winner Felipe Massa finishing seventh while Fernando Alonso, who qualified in 12th, a further place behind.

But they were the sideshow in a race that will be remembered for the remarkable incident between the Red Bulls.

Steve Millen’s Nissan GT-R supercar heads for Speedshow

Stillen's unreal GTR
It’s been called the most famous Nissan supercar ever built and it’s heading for Speedshow in July just for Kiwi motorsport fans.

Expat New Zealand racing legend Steve Millen received one of the first examples of the Nissan GT-R to arrive in the United States last year. Utilising the aftermarket performance parts produced and sold by his own company, Stillen, Millen transformed what was already a sensational 357 kW (485 bhp) vehicle into an outstanding 456 kW (620 bhp) beast of a performance car.

“We’re absolutely delighted to have Steve Millen’s Nissan GT-R as one of our star cars at Speedshow in 2010,” says Keith Sharp who developed and organises the annual Speedshow, which takes place at the ASB Showgrounds in Auckland over the weekend of 24 and 25 July.

“The Stillen GT-R certainly isn’t something you see every day in New Zealand, and it’s been a pleasure working with Steve, his team and our expert freight company, Jenners, to put together this package to show Speedshow fans one of the world’s most awesome road cars.

Johnny back in a familiar saddle

Auto GP cars - A1 refreshed and revised
Johnny Reid has been getting back into the groove in a chassis he knows well - the first generation A1GP Lola Zytek, now the backbone of the European circuit based Auto GP series.

Joined in the series by top drivers like Georgio Pantano, Reid has immediately established himself as one of the front runners - and would have expected to be right there given his two season knowledge of the car - which is largely unchanged bar a few aero upgrades since its service in the A1GP series.

Reid is being run by the successful Super NOva outfit, which also oversaw the car when it was running as Black Beauty. A stall in round one from pole wasn't the perfect start, but Reid is expecting - and indeed can be expected  - to go very well in the fast growing series this season.

We'll be keeping an eye on the ace to see how he fairs.
